Australia has expanded digital options for visa applicants by allowing more people to submit required identity information through the Australian Immi App. The expansion enables eligible applicants to provide facial biometrics and passport details from their smartphones rather than attending an in-person collection centre.
Announced by Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, the latest rollout began on November 24th, 2025, extending access to the app to 19 additional countries and bringing the total number of supported countries to 34. The department stated that the app can be used only by applicants who have previously provided biometrics to the department and who hold a valid passport.
Remote Submission of Facial Biometrics and Passport Information
The department announced that eligible applicants can now upload facial biometrics and passport data directly through the Australian Immi App. The process replaces the need to visit biometric collection centres for facial image capture in the listed countries. The department noted that fingerprints are not collected through the app and must have been supplied during an earlier application.
The service is offered at no cost to applicants. According to the department, the digital process is designed to allow applicants to complete identity requirements through their mobile devices without additional charges.
In the announcement, the department said the app “allows eligible clients to submit their facial biometrics and passport information from their smartphones.”
Countries Added in the Latest Expansion
As part of the November 24th 2025 update, applicants in the following locations became eligible to use the app: Algeria, Bahrain, Colombia, Egypt, Fiji, France, Greece, Hong Kong (SAR), Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand (third-country nationals), Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Tonga, Türkiye, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates and Vanuatu.
The department stated that the expansion increases remote-submission coverage to 34 countries across multiple regions. These countries are included in Australia’s biometric collection program and meet the technical and operational requirements needed to support use of the mobile app.
Government Plans for Further Rollout in 2026
The Department of Home Affairs confirmed that a final expansion of the Australian Immi App is planned for early 2026. This final phase will extend app access to all remaining countries that participate in Australia’s offshore biometric program.
The department noted that the staged rollout is intended to progressively support more applicants and increase availability of remote processes for identity verification. It stated that it “looks forward to continuing to expand the app’s reach in 2026” and intends to provide “easier access to Australia’s visa system for more people, in more places.”
Guidance for Applicants Using the App
The department advised applicants to review eligibility requirements before using the app. Eligibility depends on whether the applicant has previously supplied both facial images and fingerprints, and whether their passport is valid at the time of the application.
Applicants can consult the Australian Immi App website for further details on supported visa subclasses, technical requirements and step-by-step instructions.
