Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has started offtaking 10 megawatts (MW) of solar power from the Haske Solar Plant located in the Challawa Industrial Cluster, following the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Haske Solar Company Ltd.
The plant, commissioned in January 2023, was developed by the Federal Government through the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and is managed by the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI).
KEDCO CEO Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta said the deal marks a major step in boosting reliable and sustainable electricity supply while supporting Nigeria’s energy transition.
“Purchasing 10MW from Haske Solar Power Plant is part of the bigger picture towards ensuring energy security, enabling industries and socio-economic activities to thrive in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa,” he said.
The company confirmed that energy offtake has already commenced via the Abattoir Injection Substation, supplying industries within the cluster through dedicated 11kV feeders.
Yusuf Usman Yahaya, CEO of Future Energies Africa (FEA), KEDCO’s core investor, added that the partnership reflects FEA’s commitment to transforming the DisCo and driving renewable adoption.
“Through innovative solutions and partnerships, we aim to lead the way in renewable energy adoption and sustainable development.”
Kano DisCo described the project as Nigeria’s largest grid-connected solar facility and pledged continued investment in renewable energy partnerships to diversify supply and improve reliability.
