Electricity workers have suspended their strike following a truce brokered by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, after days of disruption at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

At an intervention meeting held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Abuja, Adelabu and senior officials of the ministry engaged TCN management, the National Independent System Operator (NISO), the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), and the Federal Ministry of Labour.

According to the memo seen by the Energy Time Podcast (ETP), the meeting followed an ultimatum issued by the in-house unions over unresolved labour issues, which had expired on Monday, September 23, 2025, leading to picketing actions.

After extensive deliberations, the parties reached a memorandum of understanding with key resolutions, including:

  • The unions will consider the committee’s report by 6–7 October 2025, with implementation to commence in October.

  • TCN and NISO will meet to assess the financial implications of the report and draft an implementation plan for discussion with the minister and unions.

  • Further meetings will be convened between the unions, TCN, and NISO to resolve outstanding issues.

  • The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) will expedite a tariff review for TCN and NISO to support the implementation of the report.

  • No employee will face victimisation for participating in the industrial action.

Following these agreements, the unions consented to suspend their strike to allow the resolutions to take effect.
