Vietnam has introduced a new 10-year golden visa program aimed at attracting global investors, skilled professionals, business leaders, and remote workers.

The visa offers long-term renewable residency for those contributing to the country’s economy, tourism, or innovation sectors.

According to Gulf News, the initiative is part of the country’s goal to position itself as a hub for sustainable travel and investment in Southeast Asia. Unlike standard tourist visas, this program offers extended benefits for recipients and their families, without the need for frequent renewals.

Focus on Economic and Professional Contribution

The golden visa targets four main groups:

  • International investors
  • Experienced professionals
  • Business leaders, and
  • Digital nomads seeking a more stable and flexible living arrangement in Vietnam

The program seeks individuals who can contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic development and cultural exchange.

Travel and Tour World, as cited by Gulf News,  reported that the long-term residency visa is designed to encourage participation in sectors central to Vietnam’s growth strategy. By attracting a skilled and globally mobile population, Vietnam aims to strengthen its professional workforce and innovation capacity.

Tourism Growth Drives Policy Reform

The introduction of the golden visa comes during a period of strong tourism growth. Reports inform that Vietnam welcomed 7.67 million foreign visitors between January and April 2025, marking a 23.8% increase compared to the same period last year.

The country saw over 6 million international arrivals in the first quarter alone.

To accommodate this growth, the government has simplified visa application procedures. Many travellers can now apply online without needing to visit an embassy. Recent reforms have also extended visa-free travel for citizens of Poland, Czechia, and Switzerland, allowing 45-day stays for package tours booked through approved Vietnamese tour operators.

Expanding Visa-Free Access

Vietnam previously granted visa-free entry for up to 45 days to citizens of 13 countries. The Vietnamese government is exploring further visa exemptions for travellers from Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Martin Koerner, group commercial director at The Anam luxury resort chain, said the expanded visa waivers are expected to increase tourism.

Lifestyle and Infrastructure Support Expat Living

According to reports, Vietnam is promoting itself as a location for expatriates by highlighting a blend of traditional culture and modern living. Cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang offer a mix of services and infrastructure, including international schools, hospitals, and various housing options.

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism has announced plans to launch seven global promotional campaigns in 2025. These efforts seek to support a target of 22 to 23 million international tourist arrivals this year.

With the launch of the 10-year golden visa and ongoing reforms, Vietnam is positioning itself as a long-term destination for tourism, investment, and professional mobility. This marks a shift toward attracting not just short-term visitors, but individuals and families planning to contribute to the country’s development over time.
