The University College London (UCL) has announced the opening of applications for its African Graduate Scholarship for the 2025–2026 academic session.

The scholarship is intended for African nationals seeking to pursue a Master’s degree in Global Health and Development at UCL.

According to Scholarship Region, the scholarship is fully funded and aims to support students who would not otherwise have the financial means to study in the United Kingdom. It is co-funded by the CP Charitable Trust and International Student House.

Scholarship Aims and Scope

The African Graduate Scholarship is a one-time award available for the academic year running from September 2025 to September 2026. It is available only to students who enrol full-time in the MSc Global Health and Development programme at the UCL Institute for Global Health.

The scholarship covers:

  • Tuition fees, accommodation, and a portion of living expenses.

The institution states that the scholarship’s goal is to assist academically capable African students who lack the resources to fund study abroad.

Eligibility and Requirements

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Be a national and permanent resident of an African country at the time of application.
  • Have applied and received an unconditional offer to study the MSc Global Health and Development programme at UCL full-time.

Only students who meet both criteria will be considered for the funding.

Application Process and Deadline

Applicants must first apply for and gain admission to the MSc Global Health and Development programme at UCL. Once an unconditional offer is received, candidates must then complete a separate scholarship application form.

Completed scholarship applications, link: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/global-health/sites/global_health/files/african_graduate_scholarship_application_2025-26.docx, should be submitted by email to igh.scholarships@ucl.ac.uk. The deadline for submissions is May 30th, 2025.

The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis. No additional documents were specified in the call for applications beyond the scholarship form itself.

Support for African Students

The initiative forms part of UCL’s wider effort to make higher education more accessible to students from lower-income regions. The co-funding partners, CP Charitable Trust and International Student House, collaborate with UCL to provide this opportunity annually.

The scholarship does not renew beyond the one academic year and cannot be transferred to other programmes or departments within UCL.
