The Federal Ministry of Interior, in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), on Tuesday commissioned a new Passport Front Office located at the Ministry of Interior Complex in Abuja, Nigeria.

According to a statement posted on the official X account of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the facility was opened as part of efforts to expand access to passport services across the country. The commissioning was conducted by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap.

Expansion of Passport Services

The newly commissioned front office is located within the Federal Ministry of Interior Complex in Abuja. The facility is positioned to serve as a new point for passport application intake, biometric data capture, and collection.

The goal is to improve access and reduce pressure on other passport offices in the capital.

The Nigeria Immigration Service described the new office as a “Ministry of Interior Passport Front Office.” It confirmed that the initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Interior.

Technology-Driven Reforms

The NIS stated that the project is part of an ongoing program to improve passport processing using technology. The goal, according to the agency’s X post, is to make the service delivery process “faster, more accessible, and seamless” for Nigerians.

This move cites that the commissioning reflects continued collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Immigration Service to enhance public service infrastructure.

Decongestion and Accessibility Goals

The creation of the new office follows a direction by the Ministry and the NIS to decentralise passport services nationwide; therefore, by opening additional service points, the agencies aim to shorten waiting times and improve the overall application experience for Nigerian citizens.

The Abuja front office joins a growing list of similar facilities established in recent years in various parts of the country.

Official Call to Public Use

The NIS encouraged Nigerians to use the new centre for passport-related services and assured the public of improved service standards. The agency also reassured its commitment to service delivery reforms and transparency in line with government objectives.
