Nova Scotia’s Department of Immigration and Population Growth (IPG) will begin using a new online system, Labour Market Priorities Stream System (LaMPSS), for Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) endorsement applications, starting May 1, 2025.
The system replaces the current AIP Online portal, marking a shift in how employers apply to hire skilled foreign workers under the AIP.
According to Immigration News Canada (INC), this change is part of the province’s ongoing strategy to simplify immigration processes and integrate services. The move also aligns the AIP endorsement process with the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) through a unified digital platform.
Background on the Atlantic Immigration Program
The AIP, created in 2017 and made permanent in 2022, allows designated employers in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island to hire skilled international workers and graduates. The program is employer-driven and was designed to help address labour shortages and population needs in Atlantic Canada.
Nova Scotia’s adoption of the LaMPSS system is intended to support continued participation in the AIP while increasing efficiency for employers and immigration officials alike.
Why the Province Is Making the Change
The switch to LaMPSS is based on employer feedback and reviews by the IPG Branch since AIP Online launched in 2022. Combining AIP and NSNP applications into one system aims to cut down on paperwork and speed up processing.
INC cited that employers will have built-in-tools to help complete applications and can give access to multiple team members to manage submissions.
Key Features and Support for Employers
The LaMPSS platform includes several new features designed to simplify the application process:
- Mobile Access: Employers can manage applications from phones, tablets, and computers.
- Error-Reducing Prompts: Guidance is provided within the system to help users avoid common mistakes.
- User Permissions: Designated officers can authorize multiple users to manage applications on behalf of the business.
- Support Resources: Training materials and contact support (via AIP-Online@novascotia.ca or 1-902-424-5230) will be available to help employers during the transition.
Applications submitted through the AIP Online portal before April 30, 2025, will be processed normally and will not require resubmission through LaMPSS.
Steps Employers Must Take to Prepare
Employers currently designated under the AIP do not need to reapply for designation. However, to submit new endorsement applications starting May 1st, they must request access to LaMPSS.
Steps to prepare include:
- Logging into the AIP Online portal on or after May 1st and completing the Access Request Form.
- Verifying and authenticating their My NS Account when prompted by the IPG Branch.
- Reviewing training resources provided by the province to become familiar with LaMPSS.
Employers with high volumes of applications will be prioritized for early onboarding, but all designated employers will be able to access the system starting May 1st.
What Happens to AIP Online After April 30th
While LaMPSS will handle all new AIP endorsement applications from May 1st, the existing AIP Online portal will remain partially active. It will continue to support applications for employer designation and renewal.
