RMIT University opens AU$5,000 Foundation scholarships for international students

RMIT University, in Australia, has opened applications for its Foundation Academic Scholarships for international students planning to begin Foundation Studies in 2026, offering AU$5,000 financial support to eligible students enrolling in the program.

According to information released by RMIT University, the scholarships are available to new international students commencing Foundation Studies in either Semester 1 or Semester 2 of 2026 and are awarded based on academic merit.

Scholarship value and number available

The Foundation Academic Scholarship provides a one-off payment of AU$5,000 to be used towards future tuition fees. The payment is applied after the first census date and credited directly to the student’s university account.

RMIT University has confirmed that 40 scholarships will be available for the 2026 academic year. The scholarships will be offered on a rolling basis and may be fully allocated before the advertised closing dates.

The scholarship is strictly limited to tuition fees and cannot be refunded or transferred. It applies only to the eligible program and duration listed in the student’s initial offer letter.

Who can apply

The scholarship is open to international students who hold a valid student visa or who plan to apply for a student visa before their program begins. Applicants must have received either a full or conditional offer letter and be commencing Foundation Studies in any stream in Semester 1 or Semester 2nd, 2026.

Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest as part of the application process. Students who are already enrolled in Foundation Studies are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Students with an ELICOS packaged offer may also be eligible, provided they commence their Foundation Studies program in 2026.

How to apply

To apply, students must first select an eligible Foundation Studies program and submit an application to study at RMIT University. After applying for admission, students must submit an Expression of Interest for the scholarship.

Selection is based on academic merit. Successful applicants will receive an offer letter that includes details of the scholarship. RMIT University has stated that unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.

The scholarship cannot be deferred to a later intake or academic year and must be used for the intake specified in the offer letter.

Key dates and conditions

The closing date for Semester 1, 2026 intake is January 15th, 2026. For students commencing in Semester 2, 2026, applications close on May 31st, 2026.

Applicants must not be receiving another external scholarship or government-funded sponsorship that covers tuition fees. However, students who receive the English to Foundation Studies Pathway Bursary are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
