The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a warning to students and the general public regarding a fraudulent website falsely claiming to be the official portal for student loan applications.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a statement released in Abuja on Monday, June 30, 2025, by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, clarified that the circulating message and associated link are not genuine and urged caution.
Fraudulent Portal Circulating Online
Oluwatuyi stated that the fake portal falsely attributes a directive from President Bola Tinubu, claiming the reopening of the student loan fund portal.
“The attention of NELFUND has been drawn to a fraudulent message currently circulating online, falsely claiming that President Bola Tinubu has directed the reopening of the NELFUND Student Loan portal,” she said.
She identified the fake link as: https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/, adding that this site does not belong to the Fund.
Official Portal and Contact Information
Oluwatuyi emphasised that the only authentic application site for student loans is: https://nelf.gov.ng.
“The only official portal for the NELFUND Student Loan Application is: https://nelf.gov.ng,” she said.
She encouraged students, parents, and guardians to refrain from using unverified websites and warned against submitting any personal or financial data through unauthorised platforms.
She added that students who come across suspicious content should report such cases to NELFUND via email at: info@nelf.gov.ng.
Use of Verified Channels Encouraged
To further support secure communication, Oluwatuyi advised the public to make use of Fund’s verified social media accounts for updates and information. These include:
- X (formerly Twitter): @nelfund
- Instagram: @nelfund
- Facebook and LinkedIn: Nigerian Education Loan Fund – NELFUND
She encouraged that NELFUND remains committed to transparency, safety, and fairness in the student loan application process and that all official updates will be shared through the Fund’s verified communication channels.
NELFUND Reassures Public on Security Measures
Reiterating the Fund’s stance, Oluwatuyi assured that efforts are ongoing to safeguard users and maintain a transparent system. She warned that impersonation or the creation of false platforms undermines the integrity of the loan scheme and poses risks to the public.
She urged students to remain vigilant, verify all information directly from official sources, and refrain from spreading unconfirmed messages. She also emphasised that students should not click on suspicious links and refrain from submitting personal information to unauthorised websites.
