Femi Soneye has stepped down as Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, ending a 20-month tenure at the state-owned oil firm.

Soneye announced his resignation in a Facebook post on Friday, citing personal reasons and a desire to spend more time with his family.

“It has been a profound honour to serve both the Company and our country, and to contribute in my own way to the ongoing transformation of NNPC Ltd,” he wrote. “I am deeply grateful for the trust reposed in me and the opportunities granted.”

He appreciated colleagues’ support and urged media professionals to maintain “robust, balanced, and constructive reportage” in support of the company’s mission.

Soneye, a seasoned journalist and media executive, was appointed on Oct. 18, 2023, replacing Garba Muhammad, who had held the position since August 2021 following a management reshuffle.
